Ursa Major Racing – Race Day Triple Attack

Today’s Runners – Ursa Major Racing

We head into a busy day with three runners across Sedgefield, Newcastle and Wolverhampton, and plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Here are the manager’s thoughts on each:

1:45 Sedgefield – Huit Reflets

Trainer: Mark Walford

Jockey: Jamie Hamilton

Huit Reflets arrives here in excellent form. He’s done nothing but please us at home, and although he had a small niggle after his impressive win at Kelso, he’s come back bouncing. He will undoubtedly improve a touch for the run, but on paper this looks a very winnable race.

The one concern is the ground. If he jumps cleanly and handles conditions, his current mark makes him look extremely well-handicapped based on his homework. If things fall right, he should be right in the mix and very hard to beat.

4:35 Newcastle – Northern Tempest

Trainer: Michael Dods

Jockey: Sean Kirrane

Northern Tempest has taken a big step forward since his last run following a break. The team are delighted with how much he has strengthened and sharpened up at home. We expect him to travel well for a long way this evening.

Realistically, we’d be very happy with a mid-division finish at this stage of his development. He’s a horse who will shine next year—like the rest of his family, he’s the type to improve dramatically with time. He’ll also be a completely different proposition when he heads into nurseries.

6:00 Wolverhampton – Prince Quattro (pictured below)

Trainer: James Owen

Jockey: Pat Cosgrave

Prince Quattro has been holding his form consistently well and deserves another good opportunity. Last time out at Newcastle he simply wasn’t given a chance—he was positioned far too far back off a slow pace, leaving him with the impossible task of making up ground.

Tonight, with Pat Cosgrave taking over in the saddle, we expect a much more positive ride. If he’s put in the race early, he looks to have a strong each-way chance, and we’re hopeful he can show his true running.

Best of luck to all connections!
