At Ursa Major Racing, we’re more than just racehorse owners – we’re a vibrant, close-knit community that thrives on fun, competition, and making a real difference.

Our Legendary Competitions

Throughout the year, we run a host of exciting games and challenges designed to bring owners together and keep the banter alive – even when our horses aren't running. Our flagship events include:

  • 🏇 The Jumps 39 & Flat 39 Competitions
    Two thrilling seasonal leagues where players tackle 39 of the most important and exciting races from both codes. Points are awarded based on selections, with brilliant prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each competition. It’s strategic, competitive, and above all, great fun.

  • 🎯 Last Horse Standing
    A real test of nerve and consistency. Seven races. In Race 1, your pick must finish in the top 7… then top 6 in the next… all the way to the final where only the winner will do. Fall short, and you're out! It's a fan-favourite that always brings excitement (and heartbreak!).

  • 🎱 Bonus Ball Draws
    Occasional lucky dip-style draws with incredible prizes – including the chance to win a share in a racehorse. Simple, fun, and full of surprises.

  • 🌟 James Fagan’s ‘Pick of the Day’
    Hugely popular within the group, this daily selection game has seen fantastic prizes handed out monthly and yearly. It keeps everyone engaged, talking horses, and having fun all year round – hats off to James for running it with such passion and creativity!

These competitions are masterminded by a top team of Owners/Admins: James Fagan, Lee Randall, and Mike Broom. Their time, effort, and enthusiasm keep the whole group buzzing, and they’ve become an absolutely vital part of the Ursa Major family. We simply couldn’t do it without them.

Racing for a Cause

One of the most incredible parts of our club is our commitment to charity. Every competition we run contributes a percentage of its proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support, and we’re proud to say that so far, we’ve raised a fantastic £5,711 (as of may 2025) – and counting!

We’ve even seen brave owners go the extra mile – shaving heads and waxing chests – all in the name of raising funds for this brilliant cause. It’s this selfless spirit that really sets our community apart.

A Yearly Highlight – Cricket with Mark Walford

Each summer, we come together for a brilliant day of fun and friendly rivalry as we take on our trainer, Mark Walford, and his team in a much-anticipated charity cricket match. It’s a fantastic social event and another great way we raise money while bonding as a group.
