Race Day Preview: Genbu & Baby Rover

We’ve got two exciting runners out today for Ursa Major Racing, one making his debut and another looking to build on some really promising recent form.

2:37 Sedgefield – Genbu (Brendan Powell / Sam England)

Genbu takes his first step onto the track in what looks to be a very competitive juvenile hurdle. It’s never easy for a young horse on debut, and today’s contest looks particularly strong with a 90-rated flat horse in opposition as well as a challenger from Ireland bringing solid form. That being said, we’re really looking forward to learning more about what Genbu can do in this sort of company. He’s been showing us the right signs at home, and if he can handle the occasion and run his race, a top-three finish in this field would be a fantastic starting point. Today is all about education and taking those first steps in his racing journey with us.

8:30 Newcastle – Baby Rover (William Pyle / Katie Scott)

Later on, we switch to the evening card at Newcastle with Baby Rover (pictured below) She was desperately unlucky not to win last time out, and if she can reproduce that level of performance again, she has every chance of going one better. The return to the all-weather surface holds no fears for her — in fact, it should suit nicely. Katie has been very happy with her at home, and with William Pyle taking the ride, we head into this contest with plenty of confidence. On paper she looks like a strong each-way player, and with a bit of luck in running, this could be her day.
