A New Month, A New Test for Commander Atkinson

Ursa Major Racing kicks off October with just the one runner today – Commander Atkinson, lining up in the 2.20 at Musselburgh for trainer Brian Ellison, with Jason Hart taking the ride.

We head into this one more hopeful than confident, as Commander Atkinson still has it all to prove and finds himself with the transfer list looming. Today’s test will be an interesting one: Musselburgh is a sharp, turning track, and while ideally we might have stepped him up to six furlongs, the decision has been made to try this longer trip. His pedigree does suggest there’s some stamina in the locker, so this outing should give us a better idea of where he stands.

The plan will be to get him settled in behind, let the race unfold, and look to pass a few rivals in the closing stages. Whether Musselburgh is the perfect venue for that remains to be seen, but the main thing is he goes there to take his chance and hopefully show some of the ability we’ve been waiting to see on track.

Best of luck to all connections and those attending today – let’s hope Commander Atkinson can help us begin October on a positive note!
