Managers thoughts - Monday 21st July

It’s a busy day ahead for Ursa Major Racing, with four runners across two tracks — and plenty to play for. We’re back at Cartmel with three runners, and have a new recruit making their debut up at Ayr. While the ground conditions could be a factor today, we head into the day with hope and a few each-way chances.

1:42 Cartmel – Mr Sundancer & Restandbethankful

  • Mr Sundancer
    T: Mark Walford
    J: Jamie Hamilton

  • Restandbethankful
    T: Lizzie Quinlan
    J: Sean Quinlan

We’re double-handed in the same race here, and although the ground is a slight concern for both runners (we wouldn’t want it too soft), each goes in with a chance.

Mr Sundancer returns to Cartmel after running in a seller here a few weeks ago — and that form has aged very well, with the winner of that race going on to land a big prize since. If he can rediscover that level of form, he should be competitive again.

Restandbethankful (or Rocky to us) heads back out quickly after a pleasing effort last weekend. The team were encouraged by what they saw, and he’s come out of the race in good order, so we’re giving him the green light. Both horses look to hold solid each-way chances if things fall right.

2:42 Cartmel – Final Edgar (pictured below)

T: Mark Walford

J: Jamie Hamilton

A big run is needed from Final Edgar today, as he runs for his place within the club. He simply hasn’t been showing his true self on the track lately, and last time out the race didn’t pan out properly — more farce than form.

This will be a make-or-break run for Edgar. If he can bounce back and show the ability we know he has, fantastic. If not, he’ll likely be added to the transfer list after today.

3:00 Ayr – Cooperation

(Ursa Debut)

T: Katie Scott

J: Connor Beasley

Up in Scotland, we welcome a new face to the team as Cooperation makes his Ursa Major debut for Katie Scott. This is very much a learning mission — we’re still getting to know the horse and where he’ll be best placed.

Ideally, we’d have liked this race to be over 6f, but the ground should suit, and whatever he does today will be something to build on for the future. A new chapter begins — and we’re excited to see how it unfolds.

Transfers Incoming!

As always, good luck to all owners, trainers, jockeys and connections today. And don’t forget — Ursa Major is active at the sales this week, so be sure to follow our social channels for updates on potential new recruits!

Let’s hope we can enjoy a good day on track 🩷💛
