Manager’s Thoughts – Carlisle Runners

In the 3:15, we’re doubly represented with Ashington and Agathon.

Ashington ( pictured below) lines up under Joanna Mason. He’s been a little off form lately, but we’re using this Flat run to try something different and keep him ticking over. The main aim is a return to Cartmel in July – a track and race he knows and loves – so today’s run is a stepping stone towards that. Hopefully, we see glimpses of the old Ashington coming back to himself!

Joining him in the same race is Agathon, ridden by David Allan. He’s a horse going the right way and continues to improve. The ground is the only slight unknown, but we’re confident it won’t be a problem. He’s in good order and we’re hopeful he can put in a big performance – definitely our best chance of the day.

In the 3:45, Beltane goes to post with Joanna Mason back aboard. He was tried over a longer trip and in a higher grade last time, which didn’t quite suit him. Back today over his ideal trip and in the right grade, we’re expecting to see much more from him. He’s a genuine each-way shout and one to keep an eye on.

In summary: Ashington is on a path back to his best with Cartmel the long-term goal, Agathon looks primed for a strong run today, and Beltane should go well back under the right conditions.

Best of luck to all our connections – let’s hope for a great day at the races!
