Manager’s Thoughts - 8th August
Ursa Major Racing is back in action today with three runners across two meetings – and all head to post with each-way chances if things fall right.
Musselburgh 1.50 – FALCON NINE
Trainer: Iain Jardine
Jockey: Mohammed Tabti
Falcon Nine is up first today. It’s a more competitive race than last time out, and there looks to be one standout rival from the James Owen yard. We’re hoping that horse may be more suited to the all-weather, which could give us a good shot. Falcon came out of his last race really well, and if he can reproduce that effort, he should be right there again.
Thirsk 2.10 – BABY ROVER
Trainer: Katie Scott
Jockey: Archie Young
Baby Rover steps into a classified race for the first time today. If she runs to the same level we saw at Redcar and Ayr, she should go very close. We feel she may have been in season on her last start, which would explain the below-par effort – something that can happen with fillies who are a little in and out of form. She’s in good order now, and we’re hopeful of a much better showing.
Musselburgh 5.05 – CAROLUS MAGNUS (pictured below)
Trainer: Michael & David Easterby
Jockey: Miss Serena Brotherton
Carolus Magnus could well be one of the best-handicapped horses in training. He shaped with real promise on his comeback and should come on for that run. We’ve booked Serena Brotherton, one of the very best amateurs in the game, for this Ladies’ Race. With luck in running, we’re expecting a strong performance and hopefully a big run.
Summary
Three solid each-way chances today. If each horse brings their A-game, we could go one better than recent near misses.
Best of luck to all connections, and to those heading to the track – enjoy your day! As always, follow our socials for live updates throughout the day.
