Baby Rover Breaks the Million Pound Barrier!

What a day. What a moment. What a horse.

Today, at Redcar in the 4.05, Baby Rover—under a brilliant ride from Joanna Mason—delivered a performance that will live long in the memory of everyone connected to Ursa Major Racing. After a tough start to her career, it was hard not to feel the weight of hope, hard work, and emotion behind her today. But when the gates opened, that weight turned to momentum.

Tracking the leaders beautifully, Joanna sat quietly until the two-furlong marker. Then came the push—and Baby Rover responded. At the furlong pole, she found another gear, surged forward, and won comfortably in the end at 10/1. A huge result, not just for the team, but for what it represents.

This win means more than just prize money. It takes Ursa Major Racing past the £1 million prize money milestone—a figure that once felt so far away, and at times like a bit of a curse as near-misses stacked up. But today, that changed.

Full credit must go to Katie, who has poured everything into Baby Rover when others might have walked away. Her belief, patience, and relentless determination made this happen. And today, her work was rewarded.

It’s also a day that speaks to the very soul of Ursa Majorgrit, passion, resilience, and heart. From an idea dreamt up one night, to an established, respected racing club, Ursa has grown into something special. With every race, the Battenberg silks shine a little brighter.

To everyone involved—owners, trainers, stable staff, supporters behind the scenes—thank you. This moment belongs to all of us.

And to our racing manager, Craig Talbot, whose belief never wavered: thank you for reminding us every day that “the dream is alive.” Everybody at Ursa would agree you deserve this!

One million pounds is just the beginning.

Next stop: 100 winners.

Congratulations, team Ursa. Today is unforgettable.
