A Flying Start to August – Winners, Places, and Proud Performances!

The first day of August saw Ursa Major Racing send out four runners, each partnered with a different trainer and jockey – and they all did us proud.

Sassy Glory

– 2.05 Newcastle

Trainer: Mark Walford | Jockey: Jack Nicholls

Sassy Glory ran another brave race, leading from the front under a confident ride from young Jack Nicholls. She was pestered throughout but battled on gamely, only to be touched off in the final strides. “Rallied when headed final 110yds, just held” was the official verdict – a familiar story for this gallant filly. It’s hard to believe she’s still a maiden with the consistency and heart she shows. Her day will come, and soon!

Lumenbourg

– 4.05 Southwell

Trainer: Julie Camacho | Jockey: Joanna Mason

Lumenbourg ran a stormer under Joanna Mason. Despite a 6lb rise, he led, was headed, then battled back to reclaim the lead, only to be collared again late on – eventually finishing third, losing second in the final strides. It was a huge effort and a clear case of bumping into one that looks seriously well handicapped. He lost nothing in defeat and proved he remains in top form.

Macedonian

– 5.50 Southwell

Trainer: Michael Dods | Jockey: Sean Kirrane

Macedonian took up a more prominent position than usual, tucked in just behind the pace. Unfortunately, the leaders overcooked things early, setting it up for closers and leaving him with too much to do. This wasn’t a race to judge him harshly on – he remains a horse of real potential, and we’ll look forward to seeing him bounce back next time.

Curious Rover

– 6.20 Southwell

Trainer: Katie Scott | Jockey: William Pyle

And the star of the show? Look no further than Curious Rover. Breaking sharply and pressing the early leader, William Pyle got in front, set the pace and dared them to catch him. Nobody could. Despite challengers looming in the closing stages, Rover found more and stuck his neck out to score by half a length. That blistering early pace was turned into a winning tactic, and it was a well-deserved victory for a horse that gives his all every time.

That’s two places and a win from four runners on Day One of August – a fantastic result!

Huge congratulations to all the owners, trainers, and jockeys involved today. It’s a real credit to our brilliant team of handlers who continue to keep our horses in great heart and racing shape.

Here’s to the rest of August – let’s keep the momentum rolling! 🌟🐎
