Hugo Makes It Two In Two Days

After May Blossom’s brilliant performance yesterday, we went into today full of hope that the good run might continue. With two runners heading to the track, we dared to dream of another winner – and Huit Reflets delivered in style.

Given a cool, patient ride by Jamie Hamilton, he was kept switched off early while a rival went off quickly in front. For a moment it looked like he might be struggling to go the pace, but he dug deep, found his rhythm, and within one jump he was on the leader’s shoulder. From there he took over and said, “catch me if you can.”

In his eye-catching yellow and pink Battenberg headgear, Huit Reflets showed all the grit and determination we knew he had. He battled all the way up the run-in and stayed on strongly to the line – securing a fantastic victory for his connections and making it two wins in two days for the club.

But while the result brought us joy, the day was tinged with sadness. In the same race, Milajess – trained by a former trainer of ours – fell two out and tragically did not make it home. It is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks in our sport, and our thoughts and condolences go out to her trainer, owners, and everyone connected with her.

Racing gives us moments of pure elation, and today certainly provided that – but it also brings moments of sorrow. As a club we celebrate Huit Reflets’ fantastic win, but we do so with heavy hearts.
