A Record-Breaking Day for Ursa Major Racing
Today is a landmark day for Ursa Major Racing, as we proudly send out seven runners across the country — the most we’ve ever had in action on a single day. It’s a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our trainers, jockeys, and owners, and a sign of how far our team has come.
We’re thrilled to have over 50 owners on track today, representing a fantastic show of support and enthusiasm. Days like this truly highlight the strength of the Ursa Major Racing community and the passion that drives everyone involved.
Below are the team’s thoughts and insights on each of today’s runners:
Rock DJ – 12:48 Ayr
Trainer: Mark Walford
Jockey: Jamie Hamilton
Rock DJ is a horse held in high regard within the yard. Today’s race is another important step in his education, and the focus will be on giving him a safe, confident experience. Once he gains his handicap mark after this outing, the plan will be to go chasing — a sphere we believe will suit him well. He’s a horse for the future, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress.
Heritier – 2:29 Ayr
Trainer: Lizzie Quinlan
Jockey: Sean Quinlan
Heritier should appreciate today’s softer ground conditions and is expected to improve for the run. He’s a horse who continues to develop with each outing, and this race should bring him forward again. The aim is for a positive, promising effort that lays the foundations for what’s to come later in the season.
May Blossom – 2:50 Newmarket
Trainer: Julie Camacho
Jockey: Cieren Fallon
May Blossom heads to Newmarket with a solid each-way chance. She’s a filly who likes her own space, so she’ll likely be kept slightly wide to give her the best chance to relax and find her rhythm. A strong early pace would play to her strengths, allowing her to come with a late run. Having already won at the course, she clearly enjoys the track, and we’d love to see her finish her campaign with a bold performance — hopefully signing off with a flourish.
Falcon Nine – 3:35 Newcastle
Trainer: Iain Jardine
Jockey: Mohammed Tabti
Falcon Nine ran a cracking race on Monday and now returns quickly to the track. This race looks a touch weaker on paper, though it does feature a larger field, which can make things more tactical. He’s a hold-up horse, so he’ll need a bit of luck in running, but if he gets a clear passage, we’d be hopeful of another strong showing. He’s in good heart and should be capable of getting involved at the finish — and perhaps going one better this time.
Macedonian – 5:15 Newcastle
Trainer: Michael Dods
Jockey: Paul Mulrennan
Macedonian looks to be one of our strongest chances today. He’s been ultra-consistent in recent runs and continues to improve with experience. This three-year-old contest is competitive, but he has the right profile — a horse who travels strongly and finishes well. Provided he reproduces his recent form, there’s every reason to believe he can be right in the mix again. Confidence is high, and we’re looking forward to seeing him run another big race.
Gressington – 6:15 Newcastle
Trainer: Katie Scott
Jockey: Jason Hart
Gressington returns to the track following a disappointing debut, though there were valid reasons for that initial effort. He’s drawn wide tonight, so the plan will be to tuck him in and give him every chance to see out the trip properly. This run will be all about education and progression — we’re hopeful he can take a positive step forward and show a truer reflection of his ability.
Cooperation – 7:15 Newcastle
Trainer: Katie Scott
Jockey: Paul Mulrennan
Cooperation is another horse who continues to run consistently well, and Paul Mulrennan keeps the ride after a good effort last time out. He’s likely to be held up again, so a decent early pace would suit him perfectly. He perhaps hit the front a bit too soon on his last outing, so a slightly more patient ride could see him finishing strongly. With the right setup, he should be competitive and capable of featuring in the finish once again.
