Why This Horse?

Loulou Madrik is an exciting young staying prospect who has already shown plenty of ability and, importantly, significant improvement with experience. After finishing second at Newcastle at huge odds of 125/1, he quickly built on that effort, filling the places again at Newcastle before stepping up in trip.

His form suggests that stamina is becoming a real strength, with his best efforts coming over distances around 2m4f and beyond. There looks to be plenty more to come as he continues to strengthen and gain experience over fences.

🏇 Racing Profile

Loulou has developed into a progressive staying performer for Mark Walford. His early hurdle form included a second from 16 runners at Newcastle, followed by a third over the same course, before finishing fourth at Catterick over 3m1f.

He then stepped into a competitive Class 2 handicap hurdle at Musselburgh, finishing fifth of ten, before making the switch to chasing. His first start over fences at Carlisle saw him finish an excellent second over 3m1f, beaten just 3¼ lengths.

That latest effort is particularly encouraging and gives him a strong platform for his future over fences.

🏠 Training

Loulou Madrik has been progressing nicely through his training with Mark Walford, showing the attitude and physical development needed to step up to the demands of chasing. His schooling has been encouraging, and he has taken to fences well, giving the team plenty of confidence that this is a discipline he can thrive in.

He is a horse who continues to strengthen with time, and the focus is on bringing him along steadily rather than rushing him. With his stamina and willing attitude, his training is geared towards developing him into a stronger, more experienced staying chaser as the season progresses.

🧬 Pedigree Highlights

Loulou Madrik is by Choeur Du Nord, a French-bred sire whose progeny are particularly suited to National Hunt racing. His dam, Sunday Madrik, is by Esprit du Nord, giving Loulou a pedigree firmly rooted in stamina and jumping.

The Madrik family has long been associated with National Hunt breeding, and Loulou's pedigree gives plenty of reason to expect him to continue improving as he tackles staying trips.

🌟 Looking Ahead

Loulou Madrik looks like a horse with plenty of progression still to come. His improvement through the 2025/26 season, combined with his encouraging first start over fences, suggests that chasing could be where he really finds his niche.

With stamina clearly one of his strengths, there is plenty of reason to be excited about his future over fences and, as a relatively young horse, he has time on his side to continue developing into a very useful staying chaser.
