Why This Horse?

Baby Rover is the perfect example of what Ursa Major Racing is all about—finding horses with untapped potential rather than simply chasing expensive purchases. A strong, athletic filly with plenty of natural speed, she caught our eye through her attitude, consistency and the belief that there was much more to come with time and patience. Since joining Katie Scott's yard, she has continued to strengthen physically and mentally, rewarding that patience with a deserved breakthrough success. She's the type of horse every racing club loves to own; tough, genuine and always giving her all on the track. We believe her best days are still ahead, and she's an exciting filly to be involved with.

🏇 Racing Profile

Foaled on 3rd April 2022, Baby Rover is an Irish-bred bay filly who races in the colours of Ursa Major Racing Ltd and Partner. After gaining experience during her juvenile campaign and early three-year-old season, she began to show significant improvement in handicap company.

Her breakthrough came at Redcar on 21 June 2025, where, under Joanna Mason, she recorded her first career victory over six furlongs, staying on strongly to win by half a length. She proved that performance was no coincidence when following up with an excellent second in a 16-runner handicap at Ayr just over two weeks later.

Since then, Baby Rover has continued to race consistently in competitive northern sprint handicaps, showing that she is most effective over six furlongs.

🏠 Training

Baby Rover is trained by Katie Scott, whose Scottish yard has developed a reputation for improving horses through patient, individual training programmes. Rather than rushing young horses, Katie allows them to strengthen physically and mentally, ensuring they reach the racecourse ready to perform.

Baby Rover has thrived in that environment. She has gained valuable experience with each outing and continues to mature into a stronger, more consistent racehorse. Her straightforward attitude at home and willingness to work have allowed the team to carefully build her confidence, which has been reflected in her improving performances on the racecourse.

🧬 Pedigree Highlights

Baby Rover is by The Irish Rover, a Group-winning son of No Nay Never, one of Europe's leading sources of speed. No Nay Never has produced numerous high-class sprinters and precocious performers, traits that are evident in Baby Rover's natural early pace.

Her dam, Only Live Once, is by Charm Spirit, a multiple Group 1-winning miler whose progeny often inherit toughness, soundness and the ability to improve with maturity. The combination of speed from her sire and resilience from her dam's side has produced a filly ideally suited to sprint handicaps, with the scope to continue progressing as she gains experience.

🌟 Looking Ahead

Baby Rover has already shown that patience pays dividends. Having broken her maiden in convincing fashion and backed it up with further competitive performances, she has established herself as a genuine and reliable sprint handicapper.

As she continues to strengthen with racing, there is every reason to believe there is more to come. With Katie Scott's patient approach and a programme of suitable six-furlong handicaps, Baby Rover has the opportunity to add further wins to her record and provide plenty more memorable days for her owners. Her honesty, consistency and determination make her a horse that's easy to enjoy following and an exciting member of the Ursa Major Racing team
