Three Runners at Hamilton for Ursa Major Racing – Beltane, Sassy Glory & Straya
We’re back at Hamilton Park today with a trio of runners for Ursa Major Racing, and all three go to post with interesting chances. The team has been working hard behind the scenes, and with some tweaks in tactics and conditions potentially suiting a few of them, we’re hoping for a big day on the track.
Beltane – Aiming to Turn Consistency into Victory
First up today is Beltane, who runs for trainer Mark Walford and will be partnered by jockey Rhys Elliott. Beltane has been the picture of consistency in recent starts, always putting himself in the mix but just missing out on that elusive win.
Today marks a slight step up in grade, making it a more competitive contest—but we’re optimistic. The ground has a little cut in it, which should play to Beltane’s strengths. He also sees a slight step up in trip and a change of tactics, with the team aiming to unlock that extra edge he needs to get his head in front.
He’s been knocking on the door and truly deserves a win—let’s hope today is the day he finally gets his reward. With Mark Walford’s expertise and a confident ride from Rhys, we’re looking for a big performance.
Sassy Glory & Straya – A Double Challenge in the Same Race
Later on, we have two fillies lining up in the same race, and both head into today looking to bounce back and show what they’re truly capable of.
Sassy Glory
Trained by Mark Walford, Sassy Glory showed promise early this year but was ridden a bit too aggressively on her last outing, which may have cost her the finish. With more experience and fitness now on her side, we’re confident she can find her rhythm again and return to the consistent form we saw earlier in 2024.
Today’s race gives her a chance to take a big step forward and show she’s on an upward curve again.
Straya
On the other hand, Straya, trained by Katie Scott, continues to be a bit of a puzzle. She travels beautifully through her races, often looking like the winner turning in—but hasn’t quite been able to deliver when it matters most.
Despite being a quick turnaround, today’s race is less competitive, and with a step up in trip, we’re hopeful this will finally be the combination that sees her finish with more purpose. She’s a filly with clear ability, and we know how much this would mean to her loyal owners, who’ve stuck by her through the ups and downs.
Looking Ahead
As the weekend approaches, the yard is starting to get very busy with a flurry of runners set to hit the track. Be sure to keep checking the blog and following us across all social media channels for live updates, photos, and behind-the-scenes content from the races and the yard.
Here’s hoping for a safe and successful day at Hamilton for all our horses, jockeys, trainers, and owners. Best of luck to everyone involved!
