Not the Day We Wanted — But Plenty to Look Forward To!

It was a testing day at Musselburgh for Team Ursa Major and trainer Katie Scott, with two runners taking to the track. While results didn’t go our way, there are still plenty of positives to take from the performances — and lots to look forward to this weekend.

Curious Rover – Still Promising

First up was Curious Rover, currently Ursa’s highest-rated horse on the flat. Coming into the race off the back of a promising second-place finish over the same course and distance a month ago, hopes were high. Sam James gave him a solid break and kept him positioned out wide, ready to strike. Unfortunately, Sam reported he was repeatedly blocked when trying to find a run — and by the time a gap opened, it was too late. Sensibly, he looked after Rover in the closing stages. It wasn’t the result we hoped for, but there’s more to come from him.

Jumeriah Vision – Competitive Effort

Next up was Jumeriah Vision, again partnered with Sam James. It was always going to be a tough ask, facing a strong odds-on favourite from the Julie Camacho yard. Jimmy ran a respectable race, tucked in behind the pace on lightning-fast ground. When the leaders kicked, he just got outpaced in the final furlong, finishing 5th of 6. He’ll sharpen up for the run — this is just the start of his campaign.

Eyes Ahead to the Weekend

The flat season is only just beginning, and we know these performances don’t reflect the true ability of our horses. They’ll come on for the run, and we’re optimistic for the weekend ahead.

On Saturday, we head to Hexham with the striking grey Sonning, who will be partnered by the experienced Brian Hughes. He’s been dropped 4lb by the handicapper and, on reflection, his last run wasn’t as disappointing as it first appeared. We’re hopeful of a step forward this time out.

Then on Sunday, it’s Tarlac’s turn at Hamilton as he looks to build on his last effort and show what he’s really capable of.

80+ Owners On Track This Week!

By the close of Sunday, Ursa Major will have welcomed over 80 owners on course across the week — a testament to our incredible ownership community. A huge shoutout to our Racing Manager Craig Talbot for coordinating it all and ensuring such brilliant turnouts. The support doesn’t go unnoticed!
