Why This Horse?
Mini Mac is the type of horse we love to take a chance on — a horse with proven ability, a winning record and a handicap mark that gives his new connections something to work with.
He has already won twice during his career, first making a winning debut at Brighton over 5¾f as a two-year-old before producing the performance of his career at Nottingham in May 2025. Sent off at 33/1, he came from the rear of the field, made smooth headway and took up the running over a furlong out before staying on strongly to win by a length and a half.
His more recent form has also given plenty of encouragement. After a difficult start to 2026, he showed a return to form when finishing second of 11 at Leicester over 7f, beaten just 1¼ lengths. He subsequently finished fourth at the same course, beaten three lengths.
Now joining James Owen and Ursa Major Racing, we believe there is an opportunity to find the right conditions and get Mini Mac back to the level he has already demonstrated he is capable of reaching.
He isn't a horse who needs to prove he can win a race — he's already done that twice. The exciting part is seeing whether we can unlock that ability again.
🏇 Racing Profile
Mini Mac has been versatile throughout his career, winning over both 6f and 1 mile, although his most effective performances have come around 7f to 1m.
He made his debut at Brighton in October 2024 over 5¾f on soft ground. Held up towards the rear, he travelled strongly into the race before taking up the running over a furlong out and battling gamely to beat Pickering Castle by a neck.
His second win was arguably even more impressive. At Nottingham in May 2025, he was a 33/1 outsider in a Class 5 handicap over 1m½f. Slowly away and held up towards the rear, he made smooth headway on the outside from over two furlongs out, led over a furlong out and ran on to win by 1½ lengths.
He has subsequently shown that he can remain competitive over similar distances. In May 2026 he finished fourth of 16 at Doncaster over 7f before going to Leicester and finishing second of 11, beaten only 1¼ lengths.
His latest fourth at Leicester over 7f was another solid effort, and importantly he has been running consistently better than some of his earlier 2026 form figures might suggest.
He is a horse who can be ridden with patience, has shown he can finish his races strongly and has already demonstrated that he is capable of producing a big performance when things fall into place.
🏠 Training
Mini Mac arrives with plenty of experience behind him, which is a positive for his new connections. He has raced for three different trainers during his career, beginning with George Boughey, before moving to Christine Dunnett and subsequently Jessica Macey.
The change to James Owen gives him another fresh start, and that is something we are particularly interested in.
His form suggests that confidence and getting him into the right rhythm are important. He has shown his best when able to travel into a race, settle and then build his effort rather than being forced to use all his energy too early.
The aim will be to get him thriving again at home and then find the races that suit him best. He has already shown that he possesses the ability to win handicaps from the front and from off the pace, giving James plenty of options.
With a new environment, new routine and a trainer who has enjoyed plenty of success with handicappers, we are hopeful that Mini Mac can find another level.
🧬 Pedigree Highlights
Mini Mac is bred on an extremely commercial and proven sprinting line, being by Dark Angel, one of Europe's most influential stallions.
Dark Angel was himself a high-class sprinter and has gone on to become one of the leading sires of speed, producing numerous Group winners and high-class performers. His progeny are renowned for their pace and versatility, particularly over sprinting and intermediate distances.
Mini Mac's dam is Wealth Of Words, by Poet's Voice. Wealth Of Words was bred by Juddmonte Farms and was subsequently purchased by Yeomanstown Stud for £130,000 at the 2020 Tattersalls December Mare Sale.
The dam's side also brings Oasis Dream further back through Wealth Of Words' dam, Affluent, adding another important source of speed to the family.
The pedigree therefore contains a particularly attractive combination of Dark Angel speed and the proven bloodlines of Poet's Voice and Oasis Dream.
It is a pedigree that makes sense for a horse who has already shown winning form from 6f through to around a mile.
🌟 Looking Ahead
Mini Mac gives us plenty to work with.
He is a four-year-old with two wins already on his CV, experience on both turf and the all-weather, proven form from 6f to 1m and a pedigree that is packed with speed.
Most importantly, he has already shown signs of coming back to himself in 2026. His second at Leicester in May was a particularly encouraging run, and his subsequent fourth at the same track showed that he remains competitive.
Now with James Owen and Ursa Major Racing, the focus is on finding the right races, getting him enjoying his racing again and seeing just how much ability remains to be unlocked.
We believe there is a better horse in Mini Mac than the recent form figures might suggest.
